Structural engineering involves analysis of the frame/skeleton of a structure in order to ensure that all loads/actions applied during the use of the structure are safely transferred to the bearing soil. To ensure this, we (Structural engineers) follow the following key steps:
Step one – Preliminary works
This involves making key decisions such as the best structural frame to be used in that particular project, the sizes of all structural elements, the ideal position of these elements as well as their orientation. This is a key part of the structural design process as it dictates how all other subsequent processes will be done.
Experience in handling such works previously and ones engineering nous plays a key role in this critical step.

Step two – Calculation of loads
The Engineer now calculates all loads the structure will be subjected to during its design life. These loads vary depending various issues key among them being the intended use of the structure, the size of it and location of the structure.
Step three – Structural analysis and design
At this point, the Engineer loads the calculated loads to the structural frame in order to check on the effects to the structural frame. Different structural members react differently after loads are applied and the Engineer checks all members to ensure that are failing.

Step four – Detailing
This involves preparing well-detailed drawings to be used for approval by the County Government and ultimately during construction. The Engineer prepares these drawing to set international standards thus ensuring that both fellow professionals and artisan’s onsite can interpret them with ease.
Why work with us?
We at www.mhandisi.co.ke bring a wealth of experience in the design and construction of quality, cost effective and structurally sound structures across Kenya. These projects range from bungalows, multi storey commercial building to public facilities and as such no project is too being nor too small to engage us.
